Orginially from Ohio, I went to the big city of New York for about 5 years (mainly for school), and now I am working towards my masters at Cambridge in England. I hope this website gives everyone a taste of what my life is like here... and if nothing else I think you will find it fun and entertaining!!

St. Petersburg Day 4

We had lectures in the morning... then we tried to make it to the Monster Museum where Peter's weird experiments (like shrunken heads in jars) are displayed... but we missed it by 15 minutes!!! So we had a nice lunch and just walked around St. Petersburg and took photos instead, until the ballet.

St. Issacs Cathedral (I think hehe)

Awww it was raining... but its ok because my hair was curly after the first time I showered anyway, because I did not pack a hair dryer or hair straightener... I packed light... impressed?

The egyptian statues... I sent my sister a postcard with these on them (she likes egyptian things)... but she never got it!!! SOOOO sad :(

Too bad it looks all rainy since it was ummm RAINING!!

The egyptian statues alone (there are a pair of them).

The skyline from across the water.

And the ballet theatre all lit up at night.

At the ballet!! The lady wanted me to check in my bag with my nice camera in it!!! But luckily I had the corner seat so could hide it in the corner with my jacket... they were CRAZY about having to check things!! But I didn't make the same mistake when I went to the ballet in Moscow, I just left my nice camera back at the hotel.

It was stunning inside.

Just playing around with non-flash settings hehe.

The stage... the curtain was amazing, and very old... you can see the orchestra in the pit too.

Closeup of the curtain.

Chandeliers provided light around all of the balconies.

Yup my seat was NOT great... but it was wonderful none-the-less.

It was really packed for a weekday!!

Russians are very big on being cultured and going to the ballet and such events. So to make it possible for Russians to afford it, they make the price MUCH less for citizens and INSANELY expensive for tourists...

waiting for the show to start.

hehe what are you going to do... with no flash im too dark... with flash the theatre is too dark.

The big main chandelier.

And the ballerinas!!! Don't worry... all taken without flash ;)

Now Lindsay and I thought it was crucial to document what our hotel accomodations looked like... so here I am trying to open the door (it was reallllly hard!!!)

Looks like brick... but WRONG.... wallpaper with a brick print hahahhaha

We do look cool though.

The water smelled HORRIBLE... you can even see how brown it looks against the "white" tiles on the wall... it was SOOO hard to convince myself to go in that shower!!

That small tiny green thing... yes that is our heater!!!

And welcome to my lumpy bed with my magical carpet blanket haha.

hehe and no I am lying down across the wrong way... my head goes on the right hand side of the photo!!

Like this haha.

And this is our amazing view out of our window... see the old broken down cars... nice view!!

Yup we have got the crazy drunks outside... and the old busted tires instead of flowers...

And here we have the super small, super gross toilet... but hey at least we have toilet paper... other rooms only got 1 roll for the 6 of them for all the days!!

I will leave it at... wow what an experience!!
