Orginially from Ohio, I went to the big city of New York for about 5 years (mainly for school), and now I am working towards my masters at Cambridge in England. I hope this website gives everyone a taste of what my life is like here... and if nothing else I think you will find it fun and entertaining!!

Moscow Day 1

So our first day in Moscow... some more rested than others... glad I choose the quiet car ;) ...

the Kremlin... the Red Square... Krasnaya Ploshchad... call it what you may, it is huge!!

Someday I will also take all of these and turn it into a panorama viewshot.

Wow three photos and still going...

And we have reached the other end.

Look at the beautiful gold domes...

Theres a story about those domes... I think it was Peter the Great (correct me if i'm wrong pllllease) was going around looking for the most unique architecturial structures he could find... and he found this one personl who built something with a dome (like the buildings we now associate with Russia) and paid him a lot of money to build some in Russia... and then he killed the man thinking that then nobody else would be able to figure out how to build such structures, making Russia super special... I think thats approximately the story hehe.

It is sooo tough getting a good photo on automatic settings... but no solution unless I don't want to ever be in any photos haha.

YAAY figured out how to make the flash go off on auto!!

Sooo windy and cold, even though it looks gorgeous... i am not wearing a coat cuz it would ruin everything!!!

ohhh bad bad... overexposed

one day i might photoshop the light to be proper ;)

Vivian and me :)

Ohhh by the way this is on a bus tour... its just that they stopped to let us take photos.

This is Tsereteli's statue to Peter the Great... but it is controversial because it was originally created for america to represent christopher columbus... but we found it faaaar too tacky (5 different port cities turned down having it)... so the artist is said to have just changed the face a bit and said it was Peter... it is HUGE (twice the size of the statue of liberty apparently).

Funny having a statue to Peter the Great in Moscow seeing as to how he HATED moscow and he even moved the capital to St. Petersburg

Some people tried to blow it up once, but were not successful... so now it is always guarded.

I believe this is the main building of Moscow University.

A view of Moscow from above.

It is hard to see much, other than that it looks dreary.

Posing... before going to buy my lady bug and my blue matryoshka wooden dolls.

I think the smoke from that factory in the background was a chocolate factory yummmm.

Ohhhh a pink building, need I say more??

Walking to the red square.

The red flags and the people back there are the old communists... we weren't allowed to talk when we went by there, because if they heard english, they might go insane on us!!

The State History Museum inside the red square.

And on the other end of the red square is St. Basil's Cathedral... don't worry I have better photos of it later :)

Just to get a sense... in front of us is St. Basil's, behind us is the state museum, to the right is Lenin's Tomb, and to the left is a high end department store mall (haha we will see more of all of these things later... including how BAD their toilets in the expensive mall are).

Nice clock tower... cool sky...

Lenin's tomb... although we couldn't go inside and see him because it was the period during which he was being cared after so he doesn't disentagrate or something... kind of sucks, he was jewish, and jews are supposed to be buried in the ground and go back into the earth!!! it is reallllly bad luck that he is being preserved like this... and it is said that his wife was very against the idea of doing this, but nobody listened to her :(

Looks unreal, doesn't it?

St. Basils... interesting fact... if you look at how the little domes are placed from up above (from the sky) it is in the shape of a cross.

Me in front of St. Basils

wow soooo sunny

Group photo before heading off to lunch :)

Ohhh a pink church!! Kazan Cathedral perhaps?

Right across from the mall!! So you can go buy a nice Lois Vuitton bag and carry it to church!! hahaha

Statue of some man... sorrrry I really cannot remember who... nor can I remember how to read russian too well !!!! the first three letters read Pro.... so maybe it is Prokofiev?

Chandelier at the ballet we went to in Moscow!!

I splurged and got the expensive tickets.

Gorgeous building...

hehe no flash because the lady was super anal about people taking pics... unless they were russian people... UNFAIR!!

hehehe flash ;)

ohhh and we are smiling

Yup I have ORCHESTRA seats :)

oh man, what a waste of a flash shot!!

hehe Lindsay's training is starting to teach me...

hehe if they had just let us take a few nice pictures, we wouldn't have had to take so many!!

Standing ovation for the ballerinas

Well done!! It was a wonderful performance!!

Sam eating borscht.... always made with beef broth so I never got to taste any, awwwww poor me.

i look EXHAUSTED

at disneyland? nooooooope, this is the restaraunt we ate at after the ballet.

Still in training to learn how to take photos of myself.

Wonderful day for most of us... someone got their money stolen though :( All of the stories about Moscow being corrupt... they are ALL true... believe nobody and watch your back at all times!!
