The Life of Diana

The Churchill Ball was last Friday (Feb 11, 2005) and the theme was Showdown... so basically an American Western-ish theme. I have FINALLY been able to go through all of my photos, plus the photos of Paul, Vanessa, Monique, Joannah, and Justin. In addition to fixing almost all 160 photos (removing red eye, fixing lighting problems, etc)... I tried to put them in a sequence that made sense. I think it was worth the wait though, because the photos really do tell the story and show the atmosphere of the night!! Also, a big thank you to Colin for lending me his extra memory card so that I could take more photos and videos!!!




Once upon a time there was a ball. The best ball ever called Showdown. The ball was set up all day long... and they worked for WEEKS on the props and artwork... hehe a lot of it was worked on in the little house behind mine, so I know!!

The girls who went to the ball got ready together in Shoop's room... lets have a close-up of them!!



There was a gorgeous girl named Shoop with huge lips :)



A very pretty girl Rachel...



And Diana (moi) with nice straight hair... until we find out later in the fairy tale that it rained... but I am getting ahead of myself...

Meanwhile... in another house... Monique and Dan were taking last minute photos before heading out.



While queuing, Justin showed off Helen's (his fiancee's) engagement ring.



The girls waited for what seemed like an eternity...



but no need to worry... there was entertainment... horses!!

The entrance was grand... like all balls should be...



but the waiting outside in the rain was horrible!!



Some brilliant ladies brought umbrellas.



And here are two new characters in our fairy tale... Tatyana, the awesome Russian spy... and Helen!!!



Lets check back with Monique and Dan... they didn't seem to get too terribly wet at least!!



and Monique and Eva have made it inside!!

Meanwhile... Joannah and some other fabulous girls were still waiting outside.



But no need to fear... there were barber shop quartets (kind of) singing to everyone waiting outside.



Not quite sure what they have to do with the theme Showdown... but they were entertaining!!



Meanwhie, everyone was still standing outside in the rain....



The entrance to the ball was grand!!!



And it even changed colors... ohhhh ahhhhhh...



Chuchill students are not only amazing engineers and scientists... they are also amazing artists ;)



Ohhhh nice greeen color...



The group of lovely ladies slowly approached the entrance to the ball.



And there was cool entertainment in front too!!!



Ohhhh a guy that can twirl strings with flames on the end...



So fast and amazing, it can't even be caught on camera hehe.



And the photographer (a.k.a. MEEEE) is finally under the awning.



Once under the awning, nice warm mulled wine was served.



Then people proceeded up the stairs to a secret white cloth tunnel... hehe still not seeing the Showdown theme...



Paul was a bit too tall for the tunnel hahahahha.



But these cute shorties fit just fine hehe.



Red was DEFINITELY the color to be wearing!!!



Next everyone got a spiffy bracelet... joannah, lee, dani, paul... hehe can't you tell??



Dani looked GORGEOUS as usual... love the red ;)



hmmm so once everyone got inside... half of the people went to find food... and the others of us went to the coat check.



All we need is a white dress... and the three American girls can be patriotic in red, white and blue hehehe.



Ohhh fun game... play lets find Shoop... clue: she is the hotty in the red dress... told you red was the color!!!



And I got super lucky!!! My coat check number was 100!!



Next we went to find some food... but who came up with the brilliant idea to have some things outside in February??? So Dani took cover in Lee's jacket... and I took cover under Paul's jacket... straight hair + rain = bad situation!!



First food stop... fajitas... they were AWESOME!!



Next stop... the tent with the chocolate fountain!!



Ohhhh dipping things in chocolate, does life get better?



hehe chocolate dipping going on in one hand... vegetarian fajita going on in the other hand...



And the taste test comes back... yup as suspected... it is yummy!!!



Meanwhile, Rachel devours french fries!!



And Paul goes to the tent with the mechanical bull... how are girls meant to do this in ball gowns??



Dani and I are LOVING the tent with the freshly baked doughnuts made how YOU want it... cinnamon, sugar, chocolate, some combination... YOU PICK!!



And I found tons of people from my lab here... although of course I expected to see Tom!!



Ohhhh the EDC is taking over!!



Leo and Esther... my heroes that help me get American food... hehe the whole EDC really was there!!



Ohhh Steve's navy uniform was SUCH a nice change from all the men in black tuxedos.

Paul spotted lip gloss... and he couldn't resist...



The women's parlour was cool... they had hairdressers styling your hair for free... lets watch in and see what he does to taty...

And we found a new energy drink that tastes rather nice... Paul says it tastes like red bull... but I don't think I actually ever tried red bull... it tasted a bit like gummy bears to me haha... p.s. check out his churchill college bow tie.

There were some singing men... pretty good...



But then the comedian's came...



And decided to diss Ameican's... Taty and I were not amused.. check out the angry face...



but he tried to make it up to Taty by calling her up onto stage.



They even sang a song to Tatyana.



ohhh YAAAY we found Herb!!



Herb was working serving drinks or something.



I had an awesome time chilling with Taty!!



hehe and would the night be complete without a photo of Rachel and Ness on the steps.
